Kokkino Nero (meaning Red Water) is an extension of the mountain village Karitsa and is a seaside resort built literally the ravines and the plane trees. It is located 19 km. far away from the Agiokampos and 70 km. from Larissa.

The village’s name is due to the thermal spring with red water that flows in the region. The carbonated water has the color of the metal salts and is considered to have healing properties. Kokkino Nero is one of the oldest settlements in the region according to findings from excavations of the Archaeological Service and truly is a unique combination of mountain and sea.




In this settlement one encounters several bridges because of the streams flowing through, recreation areas under many huge trees and water sources. Beachfront dominate taverns fresh fish, beach bar and several rooms and hotels. It is worth noting that the Kokkino Nero attracts thousands of tourists, especially from Poland and the Czech Republic where it has become point mark for their holidays.

The Beach of Kokkino Nero consists of two coasts. On the north side there is a long pebble beach with almost half a kilometer on the opposite side of the sandy beach 1 km long. The rock complexes with rocky caves create here a unique landscape. Just above the Kokkino Nero is the famous Gorge of Calypso with three waterfalls and forest of towering beeches, where many alternative tourism activities are organized.
